The Medication Aide for CNAs Program helps you take the next step in your healthcare career, empowering you to safely and confidently administer medications to residents in skilled nursing facilities.
This state-recognized program is approved under Wisconsin DHS Chapter 129, Subchapter IV and taught by Ellen Haines, a seasoned nurse educator with more than 30 years of experience in CNA and Medication Aide training. EMH Med Insights is an independent training organization that is not affiliated with any facilities or companies.

What You’ll Learn
Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on clinical practice, and online learning, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills needed to:
- Safely administer medications to residents under a nurse’s supervision
- Understand medication effects, side effects, and documentation
- Strengthen communication and teamwork in a healthcare setting
- Build confidence and credibility in your professional role
Course Structure
Total Hours
theory and skills
supervised clinical experience
Total Hours: 100 hours
60 hours of theory and skills (a combination of online via Zoom, some in-person)
40 hours of supervised clinical experience at a partnering facility
Location: Johnson Creek, Wisconsin (conveniently located between Madison and Milwaukee)
Format: Combination of classroom and online learning
Cost: $800 (includes textbook, workbook, and certificate)
All students receive a textbook and workbook to keep, and a certificate of completion after successfully passing both the classroom and clinical components.
Who Can Enroll
This course is open to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who meet the following criteria:
- At least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- 2,000 hours of work experience as a CNA within the last 3 years
- Currently listed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry
- Positive recommendations from 4 clinical staff members:
- 2 charge nurses
- 1 Director of Nursing
- 1 Nursing Home Administrator
Students must be currently employed in a skilled nursing facility (not assisted living) at the time of training.
